Village Member Usage Policies

Privacy Policy

Our work focuses on promoting excellence in Aboriginal Early Childhood Education. We honour diverse Indigenous communities and perspectives, working together with our partners to develop culturally relevant programming for our children and families. We must also respect and remain accountable to you, the individuals who participate and contribute to these efforts.

The spirit of collaboration, whether digital or offline, requires your informed consent about the personal information you choose to share. We earn your consent by being accountable to your concerns, transparent about our practices, limiting disclosure of your information, and applying technical measures to keep your information secure. This Privacy Policy governs the ways we, the Aboriginal Head Start Association of British Columbia ("AHSABC") collect, use, maintain and disclose your personal information collected through the LOVIT Way Village website (“LOVIT Way”).

How we use your information

We collect your personal information to:

  • create your LOVIT Way account
  • support collaboration within the LOVIT Way community
  • communicate with you, and
  • improve your digital experience of our services.

The primary goal in collecting your personal information is to provide you with better services, features and content, and give you a personalized experience that best meets your needs. We will only process your information for these legitimate interests, after considering the potential risks to your privacy.

On registering, new members are screened to ensure that they are representatives and/or community members of established Early Learning or related Indigenous programs. This stringent process may take several days but aims to eliminate the possibility of applicants with fraudulent and/or unethical intentions from being allowed into our safe space.

The LOVIT Way and/or AHSABC may send you email relating to LOVIT Way or other AHSABC programs. You acknowledge that such emails are sent with your consent and permission.

Aboriginal Head Start in Urban and Northern Communities (AHSUNC) Program Evaluation Process ("PEP") information will be used to inform regional and national reports highlighting Well Demonstrated areas of practice and areas where Action and Urgent Action is needed. We also use the aggregated PEP data for the purposes of program review, information to government funders, ongoing development of the PEP tools and resources, and promotion of Aboriginal Head Start programs.

The Share the Learning Project will enable the AHSABC to communicate to LOVIT Way members/participants, Early Years/AHS Program staff, policy makers, funders and program developers on ways to help improve and support Aboriginal Head Start/Early Years programs regionally and nationally.

We also aggregate information on what pages you access. Information submitted by you, such as survey information and/or comments or feedback, may be stored in a personally-identifiable format and is used only for internal purposes and is not shared with people or organizations outside of AHSABC. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information to others.

When we disclose your information

We invite feedback from members. If you choose to identify yourself by sending us an email or completing an online form, AHSABC employees and partners will have access to such information in order to contact you for customer service purposes.

Information gathered from the LOVIT Way PEP may be published in print or online and/or presented in public forums. No one will have access to your personal/program information other than the AHSABC staff and LOVIT Way evaluators. Your personal identifying information will be protected according to the same privacy rules laid out in federal, provincial, and territorial privacy laws.

AHSABC will release any information that is required to be released by law or court order.

How we protect your information

We use technical and administrative safeguards to protect your personal information. We use secure socket layer (SSL) encryption to protect the transmission of information you submit to us when you use our secure online forms. All the information you provide us through these forms is stored securely offline. If you send us an email or complete the Contact Us Form, you should know that email communications may not be secure.

Your PEP Tally results, Feedback forms and Narrative Reports will be safely stored as digital files in the AHSABC secure intranet.
